DHR’s "Quarter Horse Program" is a horse chosen by our volunteers to spotlight for the newsletter.  This horse receives additional training in hopes he/she will be better prepared for a forever home.
Name:            Simone
Breed:            Appoloosa

Age:                4 yrs.
Gender:           Mare
Color:              Red Roan
Size:               13 Hands
Ability:      Due to Simone’s size, we waited a little longer than the average size horse to put a rider on her back. We have been working Simone under saddle for some time now and recently a volunteer got on her back and rode around a bit. Although Simone needs additional training to understand what is being asked of her, she handles a rider calmly and is eager to learn. We have not had any problems out of Simone under saddle, such as bucking, rearing, biting, or kicking. She stands tied, picks up her feet for the farrier, and loads in a trailer. She loves attention from people and will make an excellent child prospect. Simone is just as happy spending time with people as she is other horses. She will continue to receive training at DHR until she is adopted into a new home. Currently, Simone’s adoption fee is $325 but will change as her riding ability increases.

100k in 100 Days
Dark Horse Rescue must relocate! We have found the perfect piece of property in which to call our forever home, however we need your help to raise the money needed to purchase. 100k in 100 Days is a fund raiser designated specifically for this purpose. If each of our Facebook followers raise and/or donate $57 over the 100 day period, we will reach our goal of $100,000. Each donor that sends $57.00 or more for this purpose will receive their choice of either a DHR T-shirt or calendar. Whether you hold your own fund raiser or make a personal donation, any amount will make a difference in the future of the organization. Together, we can build brighter futures - one stride at a time!
Check our website and facebook for details coming soon.

DHR Volunteers
DHR has many volunteers that give up their personal time to commit to the organization.  One volunteer in particular, Nancy Jeffers, has shown her comittment to DHR by taking the initiative to care for the horses and fill in where needed in the absense of others.  Thank you Nancy!

  Health Tips

Be careful using heavy, greasy products such as MTG on your horse's skin in the summer.  The heat, humidity and sunlight can cause chemical burns when oily products are used. Stick to fly spray and/or Swat ointment.
